Each technical programme includes a common technical competence base, which constitutes the curriculum for the first study year, and a specialisation that will be the starting point for the thesis work during the second year. In all, this compiles 90 ECTS. In addition, a Minor in Innovation & Entrepreneurship of 30 ECTS will provide you with valuable knowledge on how to drive your innovations to the market.

Why study CNI at EIT Digital?

Cloud and Network Infrastructures provides a comprehensive view on network and cloud computing. Students will learn to master network management, operation, and design on the one hand and cloud service and deployment models, implementation strategies, and application design on the other. The programme also focuses on future directions of cloud computing, for example, in the fields of edge and fog computing as well as blockchains and distributed ledger applications respectively.

Today’s networks are reaching their limit because of an increased number of devices connected to the Internet, rapid traffic growth and quantity of data exchanged online. This led to the physical split of Cloud Computing and networks. By bringing cloud computing closer to the network, the benefits of the next generation of wireless technologies is that of being flexible, safe and cheap. This will allow real-time big data analysis and improved application performance.

The cloudification of networks enables new application fields like smart cities, Industrial Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, autonomous driving and augmented virtual reality. For instance, smart traffic signal will enable traffic lights to work in sync with connected vehicles, so drivers aren’t forced to seat at an empty intersection, waiting for the traffic light to turn green. Furthermore, the set of technical possibilities it offers is so innovative that it will also enable new business models and business opportunities bringing tremendous changes in society overall.

Experts and specialists working in this field need to understand the fundamentals of networking and cloud computing, and they must be capable of making judgements of how innovations in these fields affect existing business models or can create new ones.

EIT Digital Master School offers a unique two-year academic programme, whereby students study CNI or VCC, innovation and entrepreneurship at two different leading European universities. At the same time, they also acquire extensive business skills by learning how to bring an innovation to the market and developing a successful business model. These additional entrepreneurial skills will give students their ticket to a successful career.

Why study VCC at EIT Digital?

Visual Computing and Communication focuses on the acquisition, processing, analysis, transmission, and rendering of visual information, including aspects of learning and decision making. It is an interdisciplinary programme at the intersection of computer science and information technology where students can be active in the areas of image processing and communication, image analysis, computer vision, computer graphics, augmented reality, visualisation, visual analytics, as well as web-based and network applications. Our graduates combine technological and business aspects to create products and services for our ocular-centric world.

Visual Computing and Communication is a perfect Masters education for those who are fascinated by the algorithms and services that handle visual information in today’s digital society. Students with excellent skills in data and signal processing, linear algebra, probability, and programming will thrive on this programme, which provides opportunities to solve real-world problems and to create new innovative solutions. What is Minor "Innovation & Entrepreneurship" all about?

Through digitalisation, the European economy and society at large are entering an era of deep changes that impact on engineers in digital technologies in all industries. The so called ‘Digital Transformation’ is not just about operational processes and their optimisation. It aims at relentlessly challenging and rethinking companies’ business models. Digital transformation leads or will lead all organisations. Organisations impacted by digitalisation must constantly question and rethink their business models as well as their organisational structures and innovation processes. Entrepreneurship is not only about start-up creation. The entrepreneurial and start-up skills and attitudes inspire agile organisations and management schemes. Multidisciplinary teams and R&D are brought closer to customers and business. In this context, roles, expectations and opportunities for engineers and computer scientists are changing. Scientific and technological excellence are essential but not enough. Ability to understand customers, societal challenges and to build a vision of the impact of digital technologies on society will be and are already key skills. So are the ability to inspire people and sell ideas.
