Fundamentals of image processing

Description

This course presents fundamentals of image processing, including Fourier analysis, acquisition and theory of sampling, filtering and denoising, edge detection, segmentation. Applications are given on a few concrete problems (key-point detection, face recognition...), with practical works.

Prerequisites for Participation

  • Mathematical basis in integration, linear albegraic and probability.
  • Python and Numpy programming.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Get acquainted with the basics of image processing, and their applications.

  • General introduction to image processing
  • Basic image enhancement, histogram transformations
  • Fourier transform and application
  • Theory of image sampling
  • Linear and non linear filtering
  • Edge detection
  • Corner detection
  • Image feature extraction
  • Data analysis (ACP, LDA)
  • Segmentation

Teaching and Learning Methods

Magistral course, exercices and pratical work on a computer

Assessment and Grading Procedures

Evaluation of pratical works (40%), and final written exam (60%)

Workload calculation (contact hours, homework, exam preparation,..)

  • 6h weekly contact hours x 10 weeks = 60 h
  • 6h weekly hours preparation and afterwork x 10 weeks = 60 h
  • Exams preparation: 30 h
