Description

This course presents the main acquisition techniques both in medical imaging and in biological imaging. It also details a few applications, such as registration, segmentation, shape modeling, mammography, cardio-vascular imaging, biological particle tracking, etc.

Prerequisites for Participation

  • Specific prerequisites: basics in image processing

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students will have some background on biomedical image acquisition techniques, and they will know how to apply methods learned in the other courses in this specific domain.

  • Ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, X-ray imaging, positron emission imaging
  • Tomography and reconstruction methods
  • Diffusion imaging
  • EEG and MEG
  • Image registration
  • Medical image segmentation
  • Applications in medical imaging (mammography, heart, brain...)
  • Biological imaging, photonic microscopy, video microscopy
  • Confocal microscopy, bi-photonic microscopy, super-resolution
  • Histological imaging, co-localisation
  • Detection and particles tracking in fluorescence imaging
  • Segmentation and cells tracking
  • Electronic imaging and applications

  • Written examen and evaluation of pratical works

Workload calculation (contact hours, homework, exam preparation,..)

  • 4h weekly contact hours x 15 weeks = 60 h
